IPCAHR Statement on condemnation of Myanmar\'s Military Coup(2 Feb, 2021).docx (13.1K) [0] DATE : 2021-07-08 17:28:19 |
Statement
The International Parliamentarians¡¯ Coalition for Asian Human Rights (IPCAHR) expresses its implacable opposition to Myanmar¡¯s military coup led by Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing and deep concern on the violation of the liberal democratic values.
As democratically elected Members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, IPCAHR expresses its strong support for Myanmar¡¯s National League for Democracy (NLD) government, established through the general election in November 2020. Only democratically elected authority under the law has legitimacy. Human rights can be respected under a government that upholds the rule of law and civic control.
IPCAHR expresses strong condemnation of Myanmar¡¯s military junta for undermining Myanmar¡¯s democracy and infringing on civil liberties. The military junta should immediately release all of those arbitrarily detained, including the State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi. IPCAHR calls for respect for legitimate election results and the suspension of seizing power and political violence using military force.
IPCAHR, as a member of an international society along with the United Nations, the United States of America, the European Union, etc., and as a representative of people of the democratic states, will monitor Myanmar¡¯s circumstances in a responsible manner and take necessary measures accordingly. IPCAHR wishes to promote the political freedom, human rights, and permanent peace for the people of Myanmar.
2 February 2021
All members of the International Parliamentarians¡¯ Coalition for Asian Human Rights
(Chairman Ha Tae-keung, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea)
